Students in grades K-2 participate in formative assessment and progress monitoring through mClass/Reading 3D for ELA. This tool provides detailed individual reports on student progress and next steps for instruction. This year students in grades 4-5 used the iReady tool for benchmark assessments in ELA in place of Schoolnet. The results of those benchmark assessments are used to plan instruction and intervention for students and to target professional development for teachers.

For the past several years, students in grades 2-5 have taken benchmark assessments 3 times a year using the NC Schoolnet tool for English Language Arts (ELA) and for Mathematics. As a result, students experience small group guided lessons with their teacher as well as opportunities to study vocabulary, read to themselves, read with a partner, and write in response to reading.
